We were in Vegas this past weekend and took note about how dirty and poor the mental health seemed to be. Bums/drunks/addicts were passed out on the sidewalks all over the place. Noted that in all the years we had gone, its gone downhill trip after trip. PD presence was also the lowest we had ever seen.

I think it’s like that in more than just Las Vegas. California’s (San Diego & LA) homeless situation is horrendous, but now I moved to Washington State and it’s the same in Portland and Seattle. This country needs to do something to solve this situation. There are plenty of empty buildings, houses, etc…

I Think we also need to address what is causing this. Alot of those people are mentally ill and facilities meant to help people like that were closed in the 80s by Reagan. It’s time to look at this again. There are so many hiring signs all over Atlanta it seems like jobs are available so I don’t think that is the issue but I could be wrong

alot of the people I saw in San Fran aren’t sane enough to apply for handouts. I don’t think that is the majority on the street. Those people are in houses collecting money

The answer here in PDX is to form another committee. Same thing they have been doing for well over 50 years. Nothing will get done until the crime rates are so horrific that a police state is declared…right into the racists hands; just like they want and have planned for.

I think we need dedicated levels of housing. Start in step 1 where you are helped to get back on your feet, receive medical treatment have a psych evaluation etc. Drug addicts get moved to drug addict units and let them use until they want to get clean and go back to step 1 to get help them in beco…See more

I agree!! I was at Bellagio a few weeks ago and playing at the bar. The bartender asked me my plans for the day and I said I was going to walk down to the mall. He said take a taxi. It’s not safe to walk on the strip. I lived and taught in Vegas from 1998 until 2006. Loved it. But it has really gotten dirty and sad.
