Puerto Rican representation in international soccer is on the rise.
The Spanish league has another young Puerto Rican prospect after FC Barcelona signed Lorenzo Oertli Ortiz, a talented 16-year-old, left-back.
Before signing with FC Barcelona, Oertli showcased his skills with the Cadete A team in the División de Honor. His journey to FC Barcelona’s prestigious La Masía academy included a stint with CF Damm’s Cadete A Sub-16 team.
Oertli is the cousin of Jeffrey “Jac” Caglianone, a standout baseball player for the University of Florida. Caglianone is recognized for his dual-role prowess as a pitcher and hitter, and is a top prospect for the first round of the 2024 MLB Draft.
Oertli’s signing with FC Barcelona marks a significant milestone for Puerto Rico’s soccer history, since he is the second youngest talent to sign with a legendary Spanish soccer team this year, after Jeremy de León signed with Real Madrid in January.
