Mexico recorded an average of 47.3 homicides per day in May 2026 — a 27.6% drop from May 2025 and the lowest monthly figure since 2015, according to preliminary government data presented at President Claudia Sheinbaum’s Tuesday press conference. Murders fell in 28 of Mexico’s 32 states, with San Luis Potosí leading all declines at –81%.
